Hatha Classes

 
Britt's Hatha classes are dynamic, nurturing,  healing,  and fun. Her unique style of teaching places a strong emphasis on alignment, sequencing, and breath guided movement, while her approach is imbued with natural warmth, playfulness and honesty.  She encourages you to step out of your head, into your body and on a unique journey designed around who’s in class, what their needs and concerns might be and what's in the air that certain day. You may sweat, you may relax. You may strengthen, you may release.  You may find yourself in formal poses or you may end up in a free spirited, challenging flow. No matter what -  you always find a refuge to replenish and grow.

Britt bases her classes on her belief that true strength is born from surrender, as she encourages her students to find a balance between effort and relaxation.  Whether the focus is on fluid movement or therapeutic sequences, you can always expect to begin with time to settle into your body, feel your breath and move from the present experience of your body, mind and heart.  Working from the inside out, Britt's teaching encourages you to be good to your body, to be compassionate with yourself, to find balance and awareness both on and off of the mat.

Yogis of all ages, levels and body types will enjoy Britt's clear instruction, relaxed pace, attention to detail and warm spirited approach to Hatha Yoga.  Pregnant and post-partum women are welcome and will be given appropriate modifications.

 

Restorative Classes, Workshops and Private Sessions

This deeply restful and rejuvenating practice can help you create a foundation of mental, emotional and physical support in your life through your personal yoga practice.

Whether its because of all of the energy we give to others, our hectic work schedules, chronic illness, excessive stress and physical activity, many of us are constantly finding ourselves depleted, yet we rarely give ourselves permission to slow down.  Through Restorative Yoga, meditation and breath awareness, this practice can help you find a way to practice, when you might otherwise not practice at all. Most importantly, we will cultivate the fine art of surrender.

We may explore various supported poses to cleanse the organs, strengthen the immune system, soothe the nerves, invigorate the body, and honor the spirit.  Multiple variations of each pose are presented so each practitoner can have the opportunity to figure out which one suits their own needs. 

This practice is suitable for yogis of all backgrounds and levels and is especially appropriate for new parents, pregnant women, women trying to conceive, people with chronic illnesses and discomfort, as well as people that tend to nurture everyone but themselves. 

For those that are unfamiliar with Restorative Yoga, it is a practice born from the Iyengar tradition that utilizes a variety of props to support the body in gentle, restful positions.  Poses are held for 5-30 minutes or as long as the practitoner is comfortable.  The aim of the practice is to create a deep state of physiological relaxation, in which one can breathe, heal and rest deeply.  Studies have found that 20 minutes in a Restorative pose can be as restful as 2 hours of sleep!

A Restorative class is taught at least once a month in Britt's Tues/Thurs 12:15pm Hatha class at Yoga Tree Valencia. Public workshops are taught a few times a year, private workshops and private sessions can be scheduled by appointment.


 

Therapeutic Private Sessions

Britt's therapeutic sessions are based on the present needs of the individual and combine a variety of carefully sequenced poses mixed with gentle movement.  These sessions are perfect for someone healing from an injury, chronic illness or a pratitioner desiring to move through a roadblock in their personal practice.  Private sessions are also great for those looking to develop a simple home practice that suits their own needs and interests.
