Practicing yoga with Britt for the past year has been an amazing journey.. her teaching is filled with wisdom, compassion and a sense of humor (like she says, its ok to smile when doing yoga!).. I've learned so much about yoga and many things about myself in her classes. I feel lucky to have found such a wonderful yoga teacher.

Britt, I keep going to your classes because you're very serious about yoga but, on a certain level, don't take it too seriously. There's a lot of lightness in your classes along with the intensity. You've obviously studied yoga, you're smart but you're still open to the moment and your beginner's mind amidst all that. That's a beautiful thing to teach and re-enforce. How to be knowledgeable, sophisticated and determined but naive and open at the same time. I think it's why your classes work for both beginners and advanced students. There's something for everyone at any given time. I think all good yoga teachers, and I include you among these, don't just teach by showing poses and talking about how to get into them but energetically embody the things they're teaching. They've done and are doing their spiritual work. In other words, they just "are yoga" in a way which translates into other aspects of one's life. In your classes, information gets transmitted not only physically and verbally but energetically - just the way you are in class is a bigger lesson than all the rest in some respects - the frame that all the poses and struggles and joys fit into. Another thing: Maybe because you're an artist or maybe because it's part of the Iyengar thing, you approach each class creatively - letting the moment speak to you, integrating things you personally want to explore/teach/are excited about with how the class looks and feels that day. I really appreciate that. I never know exactly what to expect in one of your classes and, therefore, find myself taken to places I wouldn't have taken myself if I were practicing alone.

I also like the physicality of your approach - it's athletic but not work-outy. Your knowledge of anatomy, physiology and bodywork serves you well here. I'm always comforted and feel supported by your sense of what poses elicit what responses from the body and what poses should be done in various circumstances and also by the way you adjust poses in your casual but playfully rough way. You seem to have a sense of the body as this thing to be curious about, to explore, to wonder about, to accept, rather than to put through it's paces. You seem to treat the body as a gateway to bigger worlds and perspectives with better physical health and deeper emotional and spiritual well-being as benefits of going through this gate. Out of this one starts to learn how to and have the confidence to take care of themselves, which is a really great gift.

Going to Britt's classes in many ways is like getting a massage or going to the chiropractor, only better because you're learning how to do the adjustments and manipulations to yourself. It's like yoga as physical therapy. Britt advocates kind of a playful personal responsibility when it comes to one's body and this comes out in the postures and sequences she teaches. Her experience in various bodywork styles along with her knowledge of anatomy and physiology shine through in all aspects of her classes.

Britt's yoga teaching style is challenging, integrated, wise and witty. She has an eloquent and creative manner and blends meditation and asanas †thoughtfully. Most of all she knows what she's doing!
