Let your love lead the way.

Right now our country is immersed in a massive divide that, to me, comes down to love vs. fear.  The new administration is feeding the fear machine, building it as big as they can and many people are finding themselves consumed with fear.  On the other side, the rEVOLution rising up to counteract these divisive and inhumane policies is driven by love.  Love for each other, love for our freedoms, love for our bodies, love for equality, love for the earth, love of diversity, love of god, and so much more.  Over the past few weeks it has become clear to me that I want to be a part of the movement that supports MORE LOVE and less fear.  Luckily, I have a head start as this is already what I do as a doula, birth educator and yoga teacher, I help people tune into their hearts and their guts and find the path towards love, which often leads us to go beyond our fears.

One of the reasons I love the techniques and practices that Rachel Yellin and I teach for birth preparation, is that they are exactly the same strategies that work for the challenges that arise within our everyday lives. Buddhism, yoga, tantra, hypnosis and neuroscience teach us so much about how to focus and move our energy, in ways that improve our experience of the present moment and leads to more positive outcomes overall.

Tonight I was teaching Prenatal Yoga and chose the theme of focusing on the love, while letting the love be bigger and stronger than the fear or the sensations of birth/ yoga.  In our opening circle, I asked the mammas to share how they were going to focus on love during or leading up to the birth.  Here are some of the things they said:

  • Thinking of all the love their two-year-old radiates
  • Looking into their partner’s eyes
  • Tapping into the love of family and friends
  • Receiving support from their doula
  • Connecting with gratitude
  • Being patient with the process
  • Cultivating a positive inner dialogue
  • Coming to yoga

Talking about this topic in class reminded me of this article I wrote a couple years back for Valentine’s Day, so I decided to repost it here.  Click through to get some tips on how to make your pregnancy and birth more juicy with natural sweetness and love!

I’d love to hear your ideas for how you can focus on love, instead of fear or discomfort, so feel free to share in the comment section below. No matter what happens in The White House, no one can dictate where we devote the energy of our hearts and minds.

Lots of love to you!
